The Samia Cup for Higher Education Institutions is set to kick off on April 14, 2025, at JMK Park grounds in Dar es Salaam.
Organized by the Dar es Salaam Regional Football Association in collaboration with Conel Investment, the tournament will run under the theme “Higher Education Moving with Mama – Thank You, Mama, for Your Continued Efforts to Improve the Education Environment.”
According to Conel Investment Director, Cornerio Swai, all preparations have been completed, including improvements to the pitches and confirmation of team participation.
Sixteen teams from various universities and colleges have registered and are grouped into four groups of four teams each.
Swai also mentioned that they expect to receive sports equipment ahead of the opening. The tournament was initially planned to begin on April 12, but was pushed to April 14 following advice from Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, due to a government event scheduled on the original date.
Group A features DIT, IAA, NIT, and TIA, while Group B includes ARU, DUCE, ITA, and St. Joseph University.
Group C is made up of IFM, ISW, KIUT, and MUHAS, and Group D consists of CBE, IAE, and UDSM.
The Samia Cup aims to encourage sports among students in higher learning institutions while recognizing the government's ongoing efforts to support the education sector.
