In a show of support for national unity, fitness, and community empowerment, Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner,  Albert Chalamila, has announced that his office will sponsor one-way transport for 200 residents of the city to participate in the Betika Mbeya Tulia Marathon, set to take place from May 9 to 10, 2025, in Mbeya.

Speaking to journalists at his office on April 15, 2025, after receiving a commemorative marathon jersey, RC Chalamila said the initiative is part of his region's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and social engagement through sports.

“The Tulia Trust Foundation is doing a remarkable job. As Dar es Salaam, we are proud to join this movement,” he said.

“We’ll start with a preparatory awareness run on April 19, beginning at Aga Khan and ending at Coco Beach from 6:00 AM. Those who perform well will earn a spot among the 200 we’ll sponsor to travel to Mbeya.”

RC Chalamila clarified that while his office will cover the cost of travel to Mbeya, participants will be responsible for their return journey.

“This is not just about running. It’s about echoing the national call by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to build a healthier nation. Regular physical activity helps prevent non-communicable diseases, which are increasingly burdening our health systems and families,” he emphasized.

The marathon, organized by Tulia Trust in collaboration with Betika, is a nationwide event that attracts runners from various regions, uniting them through a common cause of health, charity, and community development.

Representing Betika, the gaming company’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Rugambwa Pius, praised the Commissioner’s gesture and extended a warm invitation to the people of Dar es Salaam.

“We are honored to present this jersey to RC Chalamila and to welcome the people of Dar to the Betika Mbeya Tulia Marathon,” said Mr. Rugambwa.

“This is more than a sporting event. It’s a celebration of wellness, solidarity, and giving back to society.”

He added that the marathon aims to create a national platform where people from all walks of life can come together for a good cause, while also showcasing the scenic beauty and hospitality of the Mbeya region.

Founded by Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Tulia Ackson, the Tulia Trust Foundation uses proceeds from the marathon to support various charitable projects across Tanzania, including education, health, and empowerment initiatives.
