Mchengerwa directs LGA directors to follow legal procedures before sacking medical officers

The Minister of State in the President's Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Mohamed Mchengerwa, has directed Local Government Authority Directors across the country to ensure that medical officers in charge of primary health care centers are not removed from their positions based on personal preferences or arbitrary decisions.

Instead, they must adhere to established procedures and disciplinary guidelines as set forth in official regulations.

Mchengerwa issued this directive at the conclusion of the annual meeting for Medical Officers in Charge of Primary Health Care Centers, which took place in Dodoma over two days.

The event brought together health professionals from various levels to discuss opportunities, challenges, and professional matters aimed at improving service delivery at the primary health care level.

In his speech, Minister Mchengerwa stressed: "I urge Directors to base their evaluations of Medical Officers in Charge on performance criteria or work quality indicators, such as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), rather than on personal decisions. I trust this message is clear," he said.

This directive follows complaints from some Medical Officers in Charge who alleged that they had been unfairly removed from their positions in violation of public service laws, regulations, and guidelines.
