The Ministry of Health is on track to relocate to its new headquarters in the Government City of Mtumba as construction nears completion.
On April 11, 2025, the Ministry’s management, led by Permanent Secretary Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, conducted a site inspection to assess progress on the building project.
According to a report presented by the project consultant, the Tanzania Building Agency (TBA), the office complex is now 92 percent complete.
The contractor, Nadhra Engineering & Company Ltd, has committed to finalizing the remaining works by June 30, 2025.
Dr. Shekalaghe emphasized the importance of adhering to the deadline, noting that no additional time will be granted beyond the agreed schedule.
“This project has taken longer than expected. We have now reached a point where there can be no further delays. I want the contractor to deliver the completed building within the timeframe agreed upon during today’s site visit,” he said firmly.
The new office building is a significant investment in public service infrastructure, with the project estimated to cost over TZS 26.6 billion.
Once completed, it will bring together all Ministry of Health staff currently operating from various locations, enabling greater coordination, collaboration, and efficiency in service delivery.
Spanning 14,355 square meters, the building comprises ten floors, including two basement levels. It will house more than 188 offices and 13 conference rooms, offering a modern, spacious, and well-equipped working environment for ministry personnel.
Relocating the Ministry’s headquarters to Mtumba aligns with the government’s broader vision of consolidating operations within the capital's administrative hub.
This strategic move is expected to improve inter-ministerial communication and streamline public services for citizens.
As the final phase of construction gets underway, stakeholders remain optimistic that the building will be completed on time and serve as a model for future government infrastructure projects.
Dr. Shekalaghe concluded his visit by reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring that quality and timelines are met in all public projects.
