Government clarifies payments to dismissed public servants

By The Respondent Reporter

The President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance wishes to provide clarification regarding a news article published in Rada Newspaper on April 14, 2025, concerning payments to public servants who were removed from service due to certificate forgery.

Among other claims, the article alleges that the directive issued by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, during the 2022 Workers’ Day celebrations, was not feasible and has not been implemented.

To set the record straight, during the May Day celebrations held in 2022 in Dodoma, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan directed that public servants who were dismissed from service due to certificate forgery should be refunded their contributions to Social Security Funds.

According to this directive, employees who contributed to the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF) were entitled to a refund of five percent (5%) of their contributions, while those who contributed to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) were entitled to ten percent (10%).

In line with this directive, the Permanent Secretary of the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance issued a formal instruction through letter Ref. No. CFC.26/205/01“AT”/20 dated October 31, 2022, to all employers in public institutions, directing them to implement the President’s order.

These instructions have been carried out effectively, with a strong commitment to transparency and accountability.

The Office is dismayed by the misleading information published by the newspaper, which is entirely unfounded and appears intended to tarnish the reputation of government leaders and the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance.

It is also concerning that the article named a legal officer from this Office without ever seeking their input or clarification on the matter, which violates the fundamental principles of ethical journalism.

We wish to reassure the public that the directive issued by  President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has been fully implemented.

A total of 15,288 former public servants who were dismissed for certificate forgery have already received their contributions, amounting to Tanzania Shillings 47,020,753,222.23, from the PSSSF and NSSF, as per the President’s directive.
