21 teams confirm for Union Volleyball championship in Dar es Salaam

A total of 21 teams have confirmed their participation in the Union Volleyball Championship, set to take place from April 22 to 26, 2025, at the University of Dar es Salaam grounds. The teams, which include both men’s and women’s squads, hail from mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, Kepha Malecela, the Public Relations Officer for the Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF), stated that the doors remain open for any teams still interested in participating.

“We are still accepting teams that wish to take part. The goal is to unite Tanzanians in celebrating the Union through this sport,” said Malecela.

Malecela emphasized that preparations are underway to ensure the event is organized professionally and that there will be high-level competition. He also noted that the championship aims to provide an exciting platform for athletes to showcase their talent while fostering unity.

The confirmed teams include representatives from various organizations such as the military, police, and universities. These include the Army (JKT), Mafunzo, JKU, UDSM (both men’s and women’s teams), Nyuki, Moro, Mipango, High Voltage, Grace Manyara (men’s), Orkeeswa, Korosho Star Girls, KMKM, and Chui (women’s).

In addition to the competition, the event will also feature a referees’ training session, which will run parallel to the championship dates.

Meanwhile, Hussein Kibombwe, the Manager of the Korosho Queens, expressed the team's excitement about participating in the upcoming championship. He mentioned that the team is currently preparing through friendly matches, with a game against IST planned to sharpen their skills ahead of the event.

“Preparations are going well, and our players are highly motivated. We are determined to continue from where we left off last year, aiming to reach the finals and possibly claim the championship,” said Kibombwe.

The Union Volleyball Championship promises to be an exciting event, not only for the teams but also for the fans who will gather to support the athletes and celebrate the spirit of unity in Tanzania.
