The Secretary of the Central Committee (NEC) for Ideology, Propaganda, and Training of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), CPA Amos Makalla, has announced that the government is allocating over 100 billion shillings for the construction of five bridges in the challenging sections along the main highway from Dar es Salaam to Tanzania's southern regions.
Makalla made the announcement during his visit to Lindi Region today, the first day of his trip. While in Lindi, he visited the Somanga Mtama area in the Kilwa Kaskazini Constituency to greet local residents and inspect the ongoing emergency repairs to the road, which had been severely damaged by recent heavy rains.
Accompanied by the Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, Makalla emphasized that the government of President Samia Suluhu Hassan is attentive to the needs of the people and committed to their development.
This is why the government has decided to invest such a substantial amount in the construction of these vital bridges, ensuring the highway remains passable throughout the year.
"Today, I’m here to greet the people and witness the progress of road repairs, which were affected by the recent heavy rains that caused significant disruption to the community. The government under President Samia will invest over 100 billion shillings to repair these bridges and ensure smooth transport," Makalla said.
During his address, Makalla also praised Ulega, TANROADS officials, and the Ministry of Works staff involved in the repairs for their professionalism, rapid action, and their tireless work around the clock to restore communication between Dar es Salaam and the southern regions.
"I would like to commend you, my brother Ulega, for the remarkable expertise and speed you’ve demonstrated in restoring communication in such a short time. It’s also important to emphasize that you must take strong action against any negligence, as what you are doing benefits CCM, the party entrusted with the well-being of the people," Makalla added.
Before Makalla spoke, Ulega provided a brief update on the repairs, assuring that these efforts would not interfere with the construction of permanent bridge infrastructure in the challenging sections of the highway.
He also thanked President Samia, who is also the Chairperson of CCM, for ensuring sufficient funds were allocated for this critical project.
