Canada’s Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussein, and Tanzania’s Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, have held discussions to strengthen bilateral cooperation in capacity-building for mining professionals and miners in Tanzania.
The focus is on modern mining and mineral processing technologies. The meeting, which took place yesterday in Toronto, Canada, was attended by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Canada, Hon. Joseph Sokoine, alongside experts from both ministries.
Minister Ahmed Hussein commended Tanzania, under the leadership of President Dr. Samia S. Hassan, for creating a favorable environment for the growth of the mining sector.
He reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to enhancing its partnership with Tanzania, particularly in equipping mining professionals and small-scale miners with advanced technological skills in mining and mineral processing.
"We have been actively involved in educational development projects in Tanzania. Through vocational training institutions, we can introduce specialized programs that empower Tanzanians, especially women and youth, enabling them to participate fully in the entire mining value chain," Hussein stated.
Minister Anthony Mavunde expressed gratitude to Canada for its substantial support in Tanzania’s economic and social development.
He also acknowledged the role of major Canadian mining companies operating in Tanzania, highlighting their significant contributions to economic growth and investment opportunities.
"Tanzania has launched a program aimed at ensuring the full participation of women and youth in the mining sector.
Providing them with specialized skills across the entire mining value chain will accelerate the sector’s development.
Vocational training institutions can be utilized to offer tailored training based on the specific mining activities in different regions.
Tanzania is fully committed to collaborating with Canada in implementing this initiative for the benefit of our workforce," Mavunde emphasized.
Additionally, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Canada, Joseph Sokoine, extended an invitation to Canadian pension funds to invest in Tanzania, particularly in infrastructure development and the mining industry.
He underscored the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships that would contribute to Tanzania’s long-term economic growth.
