On March 3, 2025, the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has launched its digital banking service, NBC Kiganjani App, a platform aimed at enhancing financial accessibility through mobile banking.
The launch event, held at The Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, was graced by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa as the chief guest, alongside Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Nchemba praised NBC’s innovation, stating that the move aligns with the Tanzanian government’s broader agenda of fostering an inclusive economy.
"The government, under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, is committed to ensuring that financial services are accessible to all citizens. NBC’s digital initiative is a significant step toward achieving this goal," he remarked.
NBC Kiganjani App offers customers a seamless way to conduct banking transactions via mobile phones, eliminating the need for physical visits to bank branches. The platform is expected to increase financial inclusion, particularly among individuals in remote areas with limited access to traditional banking services.
Prime Minister Majaliwa, while officiating the launch, emphasized the importance of digital transformation in the financial sector. "The integration of technology in banking is a key driver for economic development. This app will empower Tanzanians by simplifying transactions and enhancing financial security," he stated.
Beyond digital banking, NBC has been making strides in supporting sports and national development initiatives.
Dr. Nchemba commended the bank’s sponsorship of the Tanzania Mainland Premier League (NBCPL), highlighting its positive impact on the country’s football standards.
"Through NBC’s sponsorship, the league has gained remarkable recognition, elevating Tanzania’s ranking to the fourth-best league in Africa. This reflects not only growth in sports but also the bank’s commitment to national development," he noted.
The introduction of NBC Kiganjani App aligns with the broader fintech revolution in Africa, where banks and financial institutions are leveraging digital solutions to expand their reach.
NBC’s initiative follows a growing trend of mobile banking innovations aimed at bridging the financial gap and promoting a cashless economy.
With the government’s continued support for financial digitization, NBC’s latest venture is expected to contribute significantly to Tanzania’s digital economy, fostering convenience, security, and financial inclusivity across all sectors of society.
