The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon. Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana (MP), has urged citizens of Njombe region and other attendees to actively participate in the ongoing debate on the forestry sector, held in commemoration of World Forest Day.
The event, taking place at the Saba Saba Grounds in Njombe, offers an invaluable opportunity for the public to learn about forest conservation from leading experts in the field.
Speaking during her inspection of the event preparations today, Dr. Chana emphasized the importance of engaging in discussions about sustainable forest management.
“I urge all of you to take this chance to learn from the experts and contribute to the conversation about safeguarding our forests,” she said, addressing participants at the ongoing debate, which is now in its third day.
The Minister was joined by her Deputy, Dunstan Kitandula, and the Deputy Secretary-General, Police Commissioner Benedict Wakulyamba.
Dr. Chana highlighted the significance of hosting this event in Njombe, following a special invitation from President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“I call on all of you to embrace the honor given to us by our beloved President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to host these important celebrations here in Njombe,” she remarked.
In her address, Dr. Chana also urged the public to collaborate with the government in the conservation of natural resources, particularly forests, for the benefit of both present and future generations.
“We must all unite in our efforts to protect these resources, as they are crucial for the well-being of today’s and tomorrow’s generations,” she emphasized.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Hassan Abbasi, visited a special exhibition at the Saba Saba Grounds.
The exhibition, showcasing the value chain of the forestry sector, was launched two days ago and has attracted various stakeholders presenting a range of forest-derived products and services.
The guest of honor for tomorrow’s event will be Hon. Kassim Majaliwa, the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania.
This year’s national theme for World Forest Day is “Enhancing the Value of Forest Products for Sustainable Resource Management for Current and Future Generations.”
The theme underscores the critical role of forestry in promoting environmental sustainability and ensuring the longevity of forest resources.
As the celebrations continue, leaders like Dr. Chana are reinforcing the message that collaboration and education are key to preserving Tanzania’s forests.
The World Forest Day events in Njombe have become a powerful platform for raising awareness and fostering greater commitment to forest conservation.
