The highly anticipated Workers' Day sports event, Meimosi Games, is set to take center stage in Singida from April 14 to April 30 this year, bringing together workers from various sectors for an exciting display of talent and unity.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, the chairperson of the organizing committee, Roselyne Massam, confirmed that preparations are in full swing to ensure a well-organized and competitive tournament.
"There is overwhelming enthusiasm this year, and we expect a larger number of teams from ministries, organizations, institutions, and government agencies to participate," she said.
Beyond the competition, the event aims to foster camaraderie among workers while promoting social responsibility.
"Apart from the games, we have planned a special day to visit people in need and a tree-planting initiative in Singida," Roselyne added.
This year’s tournament will feature a wide range of sports, including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, athletics, draughts, bao, cards, tug-of-war, and more.
Roselyne emphasized that Singida is set to experience a thrilling sporting atmosphere, marking a significant moment for the region.
"We have received great support from the regional leadership, and their cooperation has been instrumental in our preparations," she said.
Since its inception, the Meimosi Games have played a crucial role in strengthening workplace relationships, enhancing teamwork, and improving productivity.
The event has also contributed to economic growth, creating job opportunities for workers through sports.
Moreover, the tournament provides an economic boost to local businesses, benefiting hoteliers, food vendors, transport operators, and traders, as participants stay in the host city for at least two weeks.
