Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged the business community across Tanzania to continue having faith in President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, emphasizing her commitment to resolving the challenges surrounding taxation.

Majaliwa spoke on Sunday, March 23, 2025, during a meeting with business representatives from Makambako District.

He reassured the business community that President Dr. Samia Suluhu is focused on addressing their concerns, especially those related to the tax system, through continuous efforts and the establishment of various teams to review and improve business operations across the country.

In his remarks, Majaliwa highlighted that President Samia’s government has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the business climate.

“I want to reassure you, Honourable Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, that after your proposals, the fifteen points raised by businesspeople following the meeting with Kariakoo traders, she has set up a commission that is reviewing the tax system in Tanzania,” Majaliwa stated.

He further emphasized that the commission, which is already working across various regions, is tasked with ensuring the tax system is transparent and favorable to both businesspeople and the country’s economic goals.

Majaliwa also praised the Commissioner of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for efficiently managing the country’s tax collection system.

He acknowledged the Commissioner’s efforts to uphold professionalism within the authority, stating that any officials who act inappropriately would be held accountable.

“I commend the TRA Commissioner for managing the tax collection effectively. It is vital that we maintain professionalism, and we will not tolerate any actions that go against the principles of good governance,” he said.

The Prime Minister urged the TRA Commissioner to continue enhancing taxpayer education programs, which are essential in helping businesspeople understand their tax obligations and navigate the complexities of the tax system.

“This government wants every Tanzanian to understand the importance of paying taxes, and we know that many Tanzanians now recognize the value of contributing to the nation’s development,” Majaliwa added.

His words echoed the government’s broader message of fiscal responsibility and the role of taxes in funding public services and infrastructure, which are crucial for the country's development.

In a separate development, Majaliwa visited Avo Afrika, an avocado processing plant located in Njombe Region, to assess the progress of the avocado industry.

Speaking with workers and local vendors who supply products to the factory, the Prime Minister encouraged farmers to continue cultivating avocados, as the crop now has a secure market with guaranteed buyers.

“I want to tell you that things have changed; avocado is a viable business. If you want wealth, grow avocados. If you start today, you can be sure of a place to sell your produce because now there are reliable investors,” Majaliwa said.

His visit underscored the government’s support for the agricultural sector and the growing opportunities in crop farming as part of the broader strategy to strengthen Tanzania’s economy.

Through his visits and statements, Majaliwa has reinforced the government’s commitment to creating a favorable business environment, improving the tax system, and promoting agricultural sectors such as avocado farming.

His support for President Samia’s leadership highlights the government's determination to address challenges and create sustainable opportunities for businesses to thrive.
