Mr. Salim Khalfan Kimaro, the leader of the Financial Education Team from the Ministry of Finance, has asked the people of Tarime District in Mara Region to report to the authorities if they find an unregistered financial service provider or one that is breaking the law.
This message was shared during a financial education campaign in the areas of Manga, Sirari, Matombo, Nyamwaga, Ganyange, and Gorong’a in the Tarime District.
Mr. Kimaro explained that unqualified financial service providers are causing harm to the community by blocking progress, and the government cannot ignore this problem.
“We are here to teach people about financial matters and ensure they understand their rights when using financial services.
It’s important for them to know the difference between good and bad services so they can report any issues to the right authorities,” said Mr. Kimaro.
He also encouraged people to be careful with their money and avoid spending it on unnecessary things like celebrations or dancing when they earn money from legal businesses.
Instead, he suggested saving in useful ways, such as Collective Investment Funds or Government Bonds.
Mr. Kimaro mentioned the 2023 FinScope survey, which showed that only 53.5% of Tanzanians used official financial services, leaving many people without access to important services that could help improve their lives.
He added that the Financial Education Program, which started in May 2024, has already reached 15 regions.
The next region to be covered is Mwanza, where more people are expected to take part and learn about managing their money for a better life.
