EWURA, ERB strengthen cooperation to enhance energy sector efficiency

ZAMBIA.The Board of the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) and the Energy Regulation Board of Zambia (ERB) have agreed to strengthen cooperation in economic and technical areas to improve energy services in their respective countries.  

During a meeting between the two boards held today, March 24, 2025, at the ERB offices in Lusaka, it was revealed that the two institutions will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to formalize their collaboration.  

Areas of cooperation between EWURA and ERB will include sharing technical, economic, and infrastructure information, capacity building for experts, and exchanging professional experiences.  

Speaking during the meeting, EWURA Board’s Chairperson, Prof. Mark Mwandosya, said that the collaboration between EWURA and ERB has already yielded significant achievements in regulating the petroleum, natural gas, and electricity sub-sectors.

 He added that this partnership has contributed to ensuring compliance with safety standards, legal frameworks, and operational efficiency in these sectors.  

“One of the major achievements of our collaboration is the joint inspection of the TAZAMA oil pipeline. This inspection has not only enhanced the safety and efficiency of this critical infrastructure but also demonstrates our commitment to improving regulatory standards in the region,"  

said Prof. Mwandosya.  

For his part, ERB Board Chairperson, Mr. James Banda, emphasized that the collaboration is a crucial step in advancing the sectors they regulate.

 He highlighted that the signing of the MoU will further drive improvements in energy services and enhance operational efficiency.
