Bunju B, Dar es Salaam – In a remarkable show of unity and generosity, Masjid Aqswa in Bunju successfully raised 9 million Tanzanian shillings during a recent fundraiser to support the construction of the new Aqswa Islamic Centre, while the old one being destroyed allowing the widening of road construction in the area.
The event, held just days ago, brought together community members, religious leaders, and key stakeholders in a shared mission to strengthen Islamic education and welfare in the region.
Sheikh Juma Tamimu, Secretary of Aqswa Islamic Centre, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all contributors, acknowledging their role in making the fundraiser successful.
He also took a moment to appreciate Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her leadership, as a special prayer was recited for her guidance and well-being. The prayer was led by the esteemed Sheikh Seif bin Mshindo who entitled as the chief imam of the mosque and a 88 years veteran scholar in the country.
This milestone underscores the urgent need for more community-driven initiatives to support religious and social development projects. The 9 million raised is a significant step, but the journey is far from over.
Taqwa Islamic Centre is envisioned as a hub for spiritual growth and a safe space for underprivileged youth, offering them moral guidance and opportunities to break free from hardship.
The fundraiser's success now paves the way for the next phase, encouraging more people to come forward and contribute.
The event was graced by prominent figures, including Kinondoni District CCM Chairman, Hon. Shaweji Mkumbura, who personally donated 2 million shillings.
Attendees were also treated to powerful Quranic recitations, notably from Sheikh Shaaban of Sar-Afiya, whose mesmerizing delivery captivated the audience.
The Aqswa Islamic Centre continues to champion spiritual enrichment and social welfare, particularly for vulnerable youth. Sheikh Mubarak Hamza, Sheikh of the organization and a commentator on religious matters urged more well-wishers to contribute, whether through bank transfers, mobile payments, or online donations.
