The Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania has commended the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism for its successes in promoting tourism, while approving the report of the Permanent Committee on Land, Natural Resources, and Tourism regarding the committee's activities from February 2024 to January 2025.
Speaking during the 18th Meeting, 9th Session of Parliament in Dodoma today, the Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Land, Natural Resources, and Tourism, Timotheo Mnzava (MP), extended these congratulations and directed the Ministry to continue making improvements, particularly in the revenue collection systems of conservation institutions under the Ministry.
This includes facilitating conservation activities such as infrastructure repairs within protected areas.
Additionally, Hon. Mnzava urged the Ministry to continue discovering new tourism products and promote the country’s tourist attractions digitally.
On improving accommodation services for tourists, Mnzava called on the Ministry to assess government-owned hotels and lodges that have been privatized to investors, to manage revenues and operational procedures.
In response, the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana (MP), emphasized that under the visionary leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the tourism sector has grown compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We have successfully increased the number of tourists, and as of now, we have reached 5.3 million tourists, with tourism revenue reaching 3.6 billion US dollars," emphasized Hon. Chana.
Hon. Chana further clarified that the government will continue to improve infrastructure and accommodation services in protected areas.
She highlighted that UNESCO has approved the construction of a road from Nabi to Fort Ikoma in the Ngorongoro area.
Regarding Tanzania hosting the 2027 World Beekeeping Conference (APIMONDIA), she explained that a 48-acre site has been secured for the event, and the process of selecting a contractor for the construction is ongoing.
