The Tanzanian government has allocated TSh 300 million to supply electricity to Lucas Mhina Primary School in Monduli District, a move aimed at enhancing learning conditions for students and improving the quality of life for the surrounding community.

Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Judith Kapinga, made the announcement today, December 3, 2024, during her visit to inspect ongoing energy sector projects in the district.

“The government, under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has set aside TSh 300 million to ensure Lucas Mhina Primary School is connected to electricity. This will enable students to access modern learning tools and resources powered by electricity,” said Hon. Kapinga.

She directed TANESCO to expedite the process and ensure timely delivery of electricity to the school, emphasizing that the government has already disbursed the necessary funds for the project.

Hon. Kapinga also reiterated the government’s broader commitment to providing electricity to the remaining hamlets across the country, emphasizing the critical role this plays in driving economic development and improving the national GDP.

In his remarks, Monduli District Commissioner, Hon. Festo Kiswaga, highlighted the district’s progress in electrification: “Monduli District has 20 wards, 62 villages, and 236 hamlets. All villages have already been connected to electricity, achieving 100% coverage.”

Mr. Romanus Lwena, Project Manager for the Rural Energy Agency (REA), confirmed that efforts are underway to connect the remaining hamlets. “REA is committed to ensuring all Tanzanians have access to reliable electricity, as this is essential for social and economic development,” he said.

The electrification project at Lucas Mhina Primary School is expected to not only enhance education but also boost local economic activities, providing new opportunities for residents in the area.
