Three championship teams battle to retain Premier League tournament

Former Premier League teams in the Mainland Tanzania Championship League are fiercely competing to secure promotion back to the top tier next season.

Each team is striving for strong performances, determined to achieve the results needed for a comeback.

Mtibwa Sugar currently tops the standings with 26 points after 11 matches, including 8 wins, 2 draws, and just 1 loss. They are level on points with Geita Gold but lead on goal difference.

Mbeya City sits third, having accumulated 22 points from 11 games. They’ve won 6, drawn 4, and lost only once, keeping them firmly in contention for promotion.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, Mtibwa Sugar's Communications Officer, Thobias Kifaru, expressed the team’s commitment to regaining its Premier League status.

“Our primary goal is to return to the Premier League. The players are working tirelessly to deliver the positive results we need to achieve this target,” said Kifaru.

He added, “We are determined to fight until we meet our objective. It’s a challenging journey, but the team is focused and motivated.”

With such fierce competition among the Championship League’s top teams, the race for promotion promises to be intense and closely contested. Fans across the country will undoubtedly be watching closely as these teams push for a return to the Premier League spotlight.
