Marketing Tanzania Ltd has donated 360 cartons of sanitary pads valued at Sh.
25.5 million to support girls’ education across the country.
The donation, which is part of an initiative
aimed at improving the learning environment and helping girls continue their
studies during menstruation, brings the total value of sanitary pad
contributions from TotalEnergies in 2024 to Sh. 35.4 million.
The pads will benefit seven schools, ensuring
that girls can attend school comfortably during their periods.
The
handover ceremony, held on November 22, 2024, at the Tanzania Education
Authority (TEA) headquarters in Dodoma, was attended by representatives from
beneficiary schools, including Lemira Secondary in Hai, Kilimanjaro, Sitalike
Secondary in Katavi, Manunus Mkombozi Secondary in Same, Kilimanjaro, and Isack
Kamwelwe in Katavi, as well as Songwe Secondary in Songwe, Kilombero, Njiwa in
Morogoro, and Sisters of Mary in Kisarawe, Coast Region.
TotalEnergies
was represented by Ms. Getrude Mpangile, Director of Legal and Corporate
Affairs, while Mr. Masozi Nyirenda, Acting Director of Resource Mobilization
and Project Management at TEA, attended on behalf of the authority.
In
addition to the sanitary pad donation, TotalEnergies has also contributed 200
desks worth Sh. 25.9 million to schools in Pwani and Dar es Salaam as part of
its ongoing partnership with TEA to improve educational infrastructure and
create better learning conditions across the country.
TEA,
which coordinates the National Education Fund, continues to encourage
contributions from both public and private sectors to support education
development. In return, donors receive benefits such as tax relief and
recognition through a Certificate of Educational Appreciation, as outlined by
the 2019 Income Tax Act.
