The 47th anniversary of St. Cecilia Choir at Bugombe sub-parish, Kanyigo Parish in the Diocese of Bukoba, was a vibrant celebration of faith and music, underscoring the need for a life pleasing to God and inspired by St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians.

The event, held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, began with a Holy Mass led by Parish head Fr. Florent Rweyemamu, who urged congregants to emulate the holy life of St. Cecilia, known for her dedication to music and unwavering faith.

"Singing is a noble achievement that enhances the quality of worship," he stated, calling on Catholics to show compassion by prioritizing the needs of the poor and needy.

The anniversary brought together community members and special guests, including Dr. Vicent Timanywa, who represented Dr. Assumpter Mshama, former Member of Parliament for Nkenge Constituency.

Dr. Timanywa praised the choir's commitment to their faith and St. Cecilia’s values, encouraging them to continue creating beautiful music that uplifts worship. "St. Cecilia is the intercessor of singers and those who make Church services more meaningful through their music," he said.

He also reflected on how St. Cecilia’s example of discipline, compassion, and intentional living aligns with national values such as peace, unity, integrity, and accountability—key components for societal well-being.

Dr. Timanywa expressed Dr. Mshama’s love and support for the residents of Kanyigo and the Church, explaining her absence due to international engagements. He reiterated her commitment to spiritual and social development in the community.

Mshama’s efforts to empower women in entrepreneurship by connecting them to financial institutions for loans have been widely recognized, although they have sparked tensions with critics who see her as a potential challenger to the current MP ahead of the 2025 general elections.

Her increasing visibility at public events, including invitations to graduations and other occasions, has fueled speculation about her political ambitions.

In his address, Fr. Rweyemamu extended gratitude to all attendees and highlighted the significance of evangelization through music, commending the choir for their dedication.

He was joined by assistant priest Fr. Canutus Jumbe and Parish Laity Chairperson Francis Lugemeleza, who echoed the importance of community support in building faith.

The anniversary celebration also served as a platform for fundraising to empower the choir in its mission. A total of Sh1,784,000 was raised, which will go towards enhancing their activities, including producing music and supporting evangelization efforts.

Choir chairperson Johannes Kaiza expressed heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the event's success, acknowledging their role in sustaining the choir's faith journey.

The celebration concluded with the presentation of awards and tokens of appreciation. Dr. Timanywa presented a gift to the choir on behalf of Dr. Mshama, in recognition of their service to the Church. Photos captured the joyous moments, including a group pose with Fr. Rweyemamu, Dr. Timanywa, and choir members.

The event reflected the vibrant faith of the Kanyigo Parish community, highlighting the power of music in worship and the enduring legacy of St. Cecilia.

It also spotlighted Dr. Mshama's growing influence as a leader committed to community development, despite the political challenges surrounding her activities. As the anniversary marked a milestone for the choir, it also symbolized the unity and shared purpose of the parish in advancing both spiritual and social goals.
