Simba Sports Club tightened its grip on the NBC Tanzania Premier League standings after edging Pamba Jiji with a hard-fought 1-0 win in a match held today at the historic CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.

The match was marked by intense competition and tactical prowess, with Simba’s solitary goal by Leonel Ateba proving to be the decisive factor.

The game kicked off with both teams exhibiting aggressive play, each eager to control the midfield and establish an early lead.

Simba, known for its dominant playing style and precise passing, was quick to impose its strategy, taking advantage of Pamba’s defensive gaps. In the 23rd minute, a well-timed cross into the box found Leonel Ateba, who expertly maneuvered past Pamba’s defenders and struck a powerful shot that hit the back of the net.

The goal, met with roaring cheers from Simba fans, set the tone for the rest of the half, giving Simba the confidence they needed to dictate play.

Despite Pamba Jiji’s attempts to equalize, Simba’s defense held firm, successfully blocking multiple counterattacks and clearing dangerous balls from the penalty area.

Simba went into halftime leading 1-0, with the crowd on edge, anticipating more action in the second half.

As the second half began, Pamba Jiji came back with renewed determination, creating a series of chances that threatened to disrupt Simba's slim lead. Pamba’s attack intensified, putting Simba’s goalkeeper to the test with several close-range shots and free kicks.

However, Simba’s defense remained composed and resilient, with central defenders reading the game well and maintaining their structure under pressure.

In the dying minutes of the game, both teams fought relentlessly. Simba’s midfielders controlled the tempo, running down the clock with smart passes and retaining possession, while Pamba made a last-ditch effort to push forward.

Despite these efforts, the match concluded with Simba retaining their narrow 1-0 lead, celebrating a crucial victory that solidifies their position at the top of the league standings.

With this win, Simba has played 11 matches, securing nine wins, one draw, and only one loss, amassing a total of 28 points.

Their remarkable form has earned them the top spot in the NBC Tanzania Premier League.

On the other hand, Pamba Jiji’s struggles continue; they currently sit in 15th place with just eight points from 12 games, having recorded only one win, five draws, and six losses. This puts them at risk in the lower part of the table, fighting to avoid relegation.

The league continues tomorrow with three anticipated matches scheduled across the country.

KenGold will face Coastal Union at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya, Mashujaa will go up against Namungo at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma, and Azam FC will host Kagera Sugar at the Azam Complex in Chamazi.
