Hundreds of Mbagala residents benefit from free eye screening at Mbagala Rangi Tatu Hospital

Hundreds of residents from Mbagala in Temeke Municipality, Dar es Salaam, turned out in large numbers yesterday for a free eye screening camp held at Mbagala Rangi Tatu Hospital.

The initiative, which provides specialist eye care services at no cost, is a collaboration between Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) and Mbagala Rangi Tatu Hospital.

Temeke Municipality’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jonas Lulandala, encouraged community members to take advantage of this rare opportunity for free eye check-ups.

“We are calling on residents to make full use of this chance for a comprehensive eye screening. Those diagnosed with complex conditions requiring surgical intervention will receive care through advanced, minimally invasive procedures at MNH,” he stated.

Dr. Lulandala expressed gratitude to the leadership and medical team from MNH for extending their services to local residents, making high-quality eye care accessible to those who may otherwise struggle to afford it.

By mid-morning, over 300 residents had already registered for screening, highlighting the community’s strong response to the initiative. The screening camp will continue until November 29, 2024, to accommodate as many patients as possible.

In addition, Dr. Lulandala reminded residents about the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 27, 2024, urging them to participate in choosing their leaders.

The eye screening services will be paused on election day and will resume on November 28 and 29, allowing residents to cast their votes without missing out on this valuable healthcare opportunity.

This eye screening initiative is expected to make a lasting impact by identifying and addressing visual health issues among community members, enhancing their quality of life through timely medical interventions.
