The Minister for Minerals, Mr. Anthony Mavunde, has announced the release of the second edition of the Industrial Minerals of Tanzania book, published by the Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST).
The book documents 43 types of industrial minerals vital for the country’s industrial development and economic sector integration, underscoring Tanzania's rich mineral diversity.
Speaking at the Mwalimu Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam on November 20, 2024, during the launch event, Mavunde highlighted the research findings in the new publication.
The launch coincided with the second day of the 2024 International Mining Investment Conference, which brings together investors, policymakers, and stakeholders in Tanzania’s mining sector.
Mavunde noted that ongoing research in various parts of the country aims to uncover even more mineral types, with advanced aerial surveys expected to enhance mineral mapping and discovery.
"The Geological Survey of Tanzania has identified a wide range of minerals, including gypsum, limestone, lithium, helium, manganese, copper, iron, heavy sands along the coastline, and other strategic minerals," Mavunde stated, emphasizing their potential for economic transformation.
He highlighted GST’s contributions, noting that the organization’s published research has led to both large and small-scale mining projects across Tanzania.
This research-driven approach, Mavunde explained, has been instrumental in sparking new opportunities in the mining sector and promoting sustainable development within various regions.
Minister Mavunde also commended GST for its role in generating reliable data and promoting investment by creating a solid foundation of geological knowledge, helping drive Tanzania’s ambition to become a hub for industrial mineral production and use.
