National boxer Yusuf Lucasi Changalawe has made history by advancing to the semi-finals of the ongoing African Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria. The competition, which features military athletes from across the continent, is a prestigious event for armed forces personnel.
Changalawe secured his spot in the semi-finals after winning by RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) in the third round against Solomon Jegede from Nigeria in their quarter-final bout. This impressive victory means that Changalawe has already ensured a medal for both Tanzania and the Tanzania People's Defence Force (JWTZ), regardless of the outcome of his next match.
The African Military Games, which officially opened on November 20, 2024, bring together military athletes from various African countries to compete in multiple sports, including boxing. The games are held every four years, offering a platform for soldiers to showcase their athletic abilities while fostering unity among African nations.
The event will conclude on November 30, 2024, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in the capital city of Abuja, Nigeria. This year’s competition promises to be a thrilling display of sportsmanship, with Changalawe aiming to bring home more glory for his country.
