es Salaam – In a special ceremony marking 60 years of
diplomatic relations between Tanzania and the United Kingdom, retired Tanzanian
ambassadors who served in London were honored for their significant
contributions to strengthening bilateral ties. The event, organized by the
Tanzanian Embassy in the United Kingdom, took place at the Protea Oysterbay
Hotel in Dar es Salaam on October 22, 2024.
The
memorabilia presentation ceremony was led by Ambassador Aziz Mlima, Chairman of
the Association of Retired Tanzanian Ambassadors (ARTA). He was accompanied by
two ARTA representatives and Ms. Naomi Zegezege, Assistant Director from the
Department of Europe and America.
Speaking
via phone, Ambassador Kairuki, the current Tanzanian High Commissioner to the
United Kingdom, expressed deep gratitude to the retired ambassadors and their
representatives. He commended their efforts in fostering strong and enduring
diplomatic relations between Tanzania and the United Kingdom and pledged to
continue building on their legacy.
This
event coincides with the 60th anniversary of the union between Tanganyika and
Zanzibar and the milestone celebrations of Tanzania and the United Kingdom's
six-decade-long diplomatic partnership, marking a significant moment in both
nations' shared history.
