In a symbolic gesture of international cooperation, French sports equipment manufacturer Sergio Mat has officially donated sports gear to Tanzania’s national rugby team.

The handover ceremony took place today, September 18, at the Slow Leopard restaurant in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.

This event marks the culmination of long negotiations between the Tanzania Rugby Union and the French company, signifying a new chapter in sports development between the two nations.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Charles Maguzu, a representative from the National Sports Council (BMT).

In his remarks, Maguzu expressed gratitude to Sergio Mat for the generous contribution, stating that the equipment would greatly benefit the women’s national rugby team.

He urged the company to continue supporting sports development in the country.

Maguzu also praised the leadership of the Tanzania Rugby Union for their efforts in fostering international partnerships to advance sports, noting that such collaboration was key to securing the donation.

He assured attendees that the National Sports Council would work closely with rugby officials to ensure that the donated gear reaches its intended beneficiaries and is used effectively to prepare the women’s national team for international competitions.

Jacob, the president of the Tanzania Rugby Union, also extended his thanks to Sergio Mat, emphasizing the Union's responsibility to build a strong national team. The donation is expected to boost the team's morale and performance.

Fatma El Kindiy, head of women's rugby development in Tanzania, highlighted that the new equipment will open doors for players to showcase their talent on the international stage, particularly for women.

This donation marks a historic moment for Tanzanian rugby, as it is the first time the women’s national rugby team has received an official sports uniform, setting the stage for future growth and success in the sport.
