The Energyand Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) is hosting meetings of the
Subcommittees of the Regional Energy Regulators Association of Southern Africa (RERA),
which have officially commenced on Monday (September 23) in Zanzibar.
The regulatory
authorities from Angola, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini,
Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania are participating in the
meetings while Zanzibar's Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) is attending as
an observer, as it has not yet become a full member of the association.
The
meetings will be conducted in two phases with the first one just started on
September 23 and will be completed on September 27, 2024. The second phase be
held from October 8-11, 2024.
The
meetings will focus on improving energy regulation in areas such as finance,
human resources, customer service, information, communication, and information
technology.
Other
discussions will cover technical and economic regulation, including tariffs,
fees, and service standards in the electricity sector.
