Tanzania has sold raw cashew nuts worth TZS682 billion in the first three weeks of the 2026/27 marketing season, with the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) facilitating the collection and auctioning of more than 175,000 tonnes.
The sales, involving more than 175,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts, were recorded by November 1, 2026, from a total of over 200,000 tonnes collected through the system since the season opened on October 12.
The figures highlight the growing role of organised agricultural marketing in connecting farmers with buyers, improving market access and supporting the country's efforts to expand agro-processing.
Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board (WRRB) Executive Director Asangye Bangu said 20 cashew auctions had been conducted through the system since the beginning of the season.
Speaking in Dodoma on November 3, 2026, during an exhibition ahead of the launch of the Sustainable Industrial Development Policy 2025 and the revised Small and Medium Enterprises Development Policy 2003, Mr Bangu said the system had continued to promote transparency and competition in agricultural produce trading.
"By November 1, 2026, a total of 175,000 tonnes of cashew nuts worth more than TZS682 billion had been sold through the Warehouse Receipt System, out of the 200,000 tonnes collected during the period," he said.
Beyond cashew nuts, the system has also facilitated the marketing of several other agricultural commodities, reflecting its expanding role in the country's agricultural economy.
Mr Bangu said that between July 1 and November 2026, the system facilitated the collection and sale of 217,000 tonnes of pigeon peas, more than 164,000 tonnes of lentils, over 26,000 tonnes of sesame, 8,700 tonnes of coffee and 8,252 tonnes of cocoa.
He said the system was also contributing to industrial development by improving the storage, handling and quality management of agricultural produce.
Under the arrangement, crops are stored in licensed warehouses, where quality and product safety are monitored before being traded.
This is important for agro-processing industries that depend on consistent supplies of quality raw materials. Better storage and organised marketing can also help reduce losses and strengthen the link between agricultural production and industrial activity.
The latest cashew figures demonstrate the scale of trade taking place through the system, with more than TZS682 billion worth of the crop sold within three weeks of the current marketing season.
