Semu Calls for Political Solution to Lissu’s Case Ahead of Verdict

ACT Wazalendo leader Dorothy Semu has called for a political solution to the case facing the party’s National Chairman, Tundu Lissu, describing it as a political matter linked to broader concerns over democracy and electoral justice in Tanzania.

Semu said Lissu’s advocacy for democracy and free and fair elections was central to the dispute, arguing that addressing the matter required dialogue and a political approach.

Speaking on November 4, 2026, during a public rally in Nyarubanda Ward, Kigoma North Constituency, Semu made the remarks as the country awaits the expected verdict in Lissu’s case on November 6.

"As you have heard, Lissu’s verdict will be delivered the day after tomorrow. Tundu Lissu is our fellow leader. His offence is fighting for democracy and free and fair elections. Our position is that Lissu’s case is political and requires a political solution, and nothing else," she said.

She stressed that the case should be considered in the wider context of democratic development in the country, calling for efforts to find a political settlement rather than allow the matter to deepen existing political divisions.

Semu made the remarks during ACT Wazalendo’s party-building tour of Kigoma Region, which is aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, engaging citizens and listening to their concerns while explaining the party’s positions on key national issues.

The expected November 6 verdict is likely to draw public attention, particularly amid ongoing discussions about democracy, political participation and the importance of free and fair elections in Tanzania.
