The Government is seeking funds to construct a 66-kilometre, 220-kilovolt (kV) electricity transmission line from Morogoro to Dumila and a new substation aimed at strengthening power supply in Mvomero District.
The project, to be implemented by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), will also involve the construction of a 220/33kV substation in Dumila, Morogoro Region.
Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba told Parliament that preliminary preparations for the project had been completed, with resource mobilisation remaining the next major step before implementation.
She was responding to Mvomero MP Sara Msafiri Ally, who wanted to know when the Government would begin construction of the transmission line and substation.
Ms Makamba said the project was scheduled to start after the completion of the first phase of the Reliable Grid projects.
The proposed investment is expected to strengthen electricity transmission infrastructure and improve power supply reliability in Dumila and neighbouring areas, although its implementation timeline will depend on the availability of funds.
Meanwhile, the Government has supplied more than 156 concrete electricity poles to address infrastructure challenges in parts of Mvomero District, where high soil moisture levels have contributed to wooden poles rotting and collapsing.
Ms Makamba said the environmental conditions in some areas had accelerated the deterioration of wooden poles, posing challenges to the stability of the electricity distribution network.
The use of concrete poles is intended to improve the durability of the infrastructure and reduce power interruptions associated with falling poles.
The intervention seeks to address immediate distribution challenges as the Government prepares to invest in the larger transmission project.
