Yanga eye fourth straight Champions League group-stage appearance

Young Africans (Yanga) will look to seal their place in the Caf Champions League group stage tomorrow when they host CFFA in the second leg of their second-round tie, carrying a commanding 4-0 lead from the first encounter.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 7pm at Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, with the Jangwani giants needing to avoid a heavy defeat to progress to the next stage.

Yanga built their advantage with a convincing victory away from home in the first leg, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the group stage for the fourth consecutive season.

The return leg will, however, require the Tanzanian champions to maintain their concentration and discipline, with the technical bench keen to address weaknesses identified in the opening encounter.

Yanga Information and Communications Manager Ally Kamwe said the team had prepared well for the decisive match, adding that the players were motivated to complete the task in front of their home supporters.

“We started with a win away from home, and we have worked on the weaknesses identified in the first leg. We are going into the match to finish the job and secure our place in the group stage,” Kamwe said.

He also called on supporters to turn out in large numbers at Azam Complex to rally behind the team, saying their backing would help boost the players’ morale as they pursue qualification.

A successful campaign would extend Yanga’s run of four consecutive appearances in the Champions League group stage, maintaining the club’s recent presence among Africa’s top club sides.

With a four-goal advantage, Yanga have a clear path to qualification, but their immediate task will be to manage the return leg professionally and ensure that their first-leg performance translates into another group-stage campaign.
