Residents of Njombe District are set to benefit from improved access to key social services as the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) implements road and bridge projects aimed at easing movement within the area.
TARURA Njombe District Manager, Engineer Costantine Ibengwe, said the projects include the construction of the 2.84-kilometre NBC-Kibena road to bitumen standard and a 31-metre stone bridge linking Mji Mwema and Ramadhani wards.
The bridge project is currently 70 per cent complete, he said.
TARURA has also completed the upgrading of the 1.5-kilometre Mama White road to gravel standard, with the road now open to traffic.
Engineer Ibengwe said the projects were designed to address transport challenges facing residents and improve their access to essential services.
“We are implementing these projects to enable residents to travel more easily and carry out their daily activities without difficulties,” he said.
He said the Mama White road was particularly important to residents because it provides easier access to the Songea main road, the Regional Commissioner’s Office and Mji Mwema Health Centre.
For residents, improved road connectivity is expected to make journeys to health facilities, government offices and other services easier, while also improving movement for students and other road users.
Njombe resident Maulus Mlowe welcomed the improvements, saying the road had transformed movement in an area that was previously difficult to access.
“Previously, this area was difficult to pass through, but now it has become an easier route for us. Students can also use it more easily,” he said.
The projects add to efforts to improve local transport infrastructure and strengthen connections between residential areas and essential public services in Njombe District.
