Tanzania is stepping up efforts to expand trade and investment ties with Mozambique, with its diplomatic mission in Maputo playing a key role in connecting businesses to opportunities in oil, gas, energy and transport.
Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development Kaspar Mmuya has commended Tanzania’s embassy in Mozambique for promoting economic diplomacy and opening up opportunities for Tanzanian companies in the neighbouring country.
Mr Mmuya made the remarks during a visit to the embassy while in Maputo to attend a three-day conference on disaster management, held from October 13 to 15, 2026.
He was representing the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities, Prof Palamagamba Kabudi, at the conference, which focuses on reducing disaster risks and strengthening Africa’s resilience to disasters.
Mr Mmuya said the embassy, under Ambassador Hamad Khamis Hamad, had continued to promote strategic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in trade and investment, while encouraging Tanzanian businesses to explore opportunities in Mozambique.
He identified oil, gas and energy among the sectors offering scope for greater commercial engagement, saying diplomatic efforts to promote these opportunities could help Tanzanian companies expand into regional markets.
The deputy minister also highlighted maritime transport and port development as important areas of cooperation, noting that improved cargo movement could strengthen economic links between the two countries.
“You have continued to do commendable work for our country by strengthening regional cooperation in maritime transport and port development to facilitate cargo movement. This enhances our diplomatic relations with Mozambique,” he said.
Stronger cooperation in transport and port services could help facilitate cross-border trade, improve the movement of goods and create opportunities for businesses operating in the two markets.
During the visit, Ambassador Hamad briefed Mr Mmuya on the embassy’s efforts to promote investment opportunities and maintain strong relations between Tanzania and Mozambique.
He thanked the deputy minister for visiting the mission and pledged continued efforts to represent Tanzania and promote it as an investment destination.
Ambassador Hamad said the embassy would continue encouraging businesspeople and investors to consider opportunities in Tanzania, with the broader objective of attracting investment and strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
The engagement comes as Tanzania continues to use its diplomatic missions to promote commercial interests abroad and encourage cross-border investment, particularly in sectors that can support trade, infrastructure development and private-sector growth.
