Tanzania and Poland are exploring ways to strengthen economic cooperation and mobilise financing for strategic infrastructure projects as the two countries seek to expand investment opportunities and accelerate development.
The discussions took place during bilateral talks between Tanzania’s Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), and Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domański, on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
The talks focused on reviewing progress in the existing partnership, particularly financing for strategic infrastructure projects through Poland’s Export Credit Insurance Corporation (KUKE), while identifying new areas of cooperation that could support Tanzania’s development priorities.
Poland has been an important partner in Tanzania’s infrastructure development, including through its involvement in financing arrangements for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project. The railway is expected to improve transport efficiency, facilitate the movement of goods and passengers, and strengthen trade links, supporting economic activity within Tanzania and the wider region.
The two ministers also discussed opportunities to broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest, with an emphasis on investment and development initiatives that could stimulate economic growth, improve productivity and create wider economic opportunities for Tanzanians.
For Tanzania, strengthening international partnerships remains an important part of efforts to mobilise resources for major development projects, attract investment and improve infrastructure to support long-term economic transformation.
The engagement also aligns with the country’s ambition to accelerate the implementation of Development Vision 2050, which seeks to drive sustainable economic growth and improve the livelihoods of citizens.
The meeting was attended by Zanzibar’s Minister for Finance, Dr Juma Malik Akil; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr Natu El-Maamry Mwamba; and senior officials from the finance ministries of Tanzania and Poland.
The discussions underscore the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries in mobilising resources and advancing strategic projects that can strengthen Tanzania’s economy and deliver long-term benefits to its people.
