Tanzania is intensifying preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the National Preparatory Committee stepping up efforts to monitor progress and ensure that key arrangements for the continental football tournament are on track.
The latest review was conducted on October 29, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, where the committee received progress reports from various subcommittees overseeing different aspects of the preparations.
During the meeting, the Infrastructure Committee presented an update on the development and readiness of facilities in Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, which are among the key locations involved in Tanzania’s preparations to host the tournament.
The Finance, Marketing and Commercial, and Procurement committees also presented reports detailing progress in their respective areas, providing an overview of the work undertaken and the steps being taken to fulfil their responsibilities.
The review is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination, assess progress and ensure that all key areas receive the necessary attention ahead of the competition.
Effective planning in infrastructure, financing, commercial activities and procurement will be essential to delivering a successful tournament.
The meeting was chaired by National Preparatory Committee Chairman Leodgar Tenga and attended by representatives of the various preparatory committees from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Tanzania will co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Uganda, marking a significant milestone for East African football.
The tournament will provide an opportunity for the three countries to showcase their sporting capabilities, hospitality and tourism attractions to an international audience.
Beyond football, hosting the continental championship is expected to create opportunities for businesses, boost tourism and support economic activity across the host nations.
As preparations progress, continued monitoring and collaboration among the responsible committees will be crucial to ensuring that Tanzania fulfils its commitments as a host country and contributes to the successful delivery of AFCON 2027.
