Simba SC and Mashujaa FC will be chasing three vital points when they face off in the NBC Tanzania Premier League at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam tonight, with both sides seeking to build on their recent victories.
The match, scheduled for 7 p.m., comes after both teams registered 2-1 wins in their previous outings. Simba defeated arch-rivals Young Africans (Yanga) in the Kariakoo Derby, while Mashujaa overcame Polisi Tanzania, setting the stage for an intriguing encounter.
Ahead of the clash, both teams have expressed confidence in their preparations, with their coaches emphasising the importance of discipline, mental readiness and taking their chances.
Simba head coach Steve Barker said his team had focused on recovery and tactical adjustments following the physically demanding Kariakoo Derby played last Saturday.
He said the technical bench had worked to restore the players’ fitness and prepare the squad for another competitive test, adding that the team was determined to maintain its winning momentum.
“We are ready, and the players are ready. We want to achieve positive results, and we have trained with the aim of winning,” Barker said.
The coach also appealed to Simba supporters to turn out in large numbers and rally behind the team, saying their encouragement would boost the players’ confidence and motivate them to deliver a strong performance.
Simba player Antony Mligo said the squad was well prepared despite the demands of the previous match. He acknowledged Mashujaa’s quality and experience, stressing that Simba would approach the contest with respect and determination.
“We will follow the coach’s instructions because we understand the importance of this match. We will respect our opponents, but we are ready to fight for victory,” Mligo said.
On the Mashujaa side, head coach Amani Josiah said he had worked on preparing his players mentally to handle the pressure of facing one of the country’s established clubs.
Josiah said matches of this nature should be viewed as opportunities for players to demonstrate their abilities and competitive spirit rather than occasions to be overwhelmed by pressure.
He urged his players to remain confident, focused and committed to their game plan throughout the encounter.
Mashujaa midfielder Jonas Mkude acknowledged that facing Simba would be a demanding challenge but said his team was ready to compete and would rely on the coach’s instructions to produce a positive result.
“We know the match will be difficult, but we will go onto the pitch respecting our opponents,” Mkude said.
Mashujaa team manager Amir Athuman said the squad was in good condition and fully prepared for the encounter, adding that the victory over Polisi Tanzania had strengthened the players’ morale.
He said the team had travelled to Dar es Salaam with a clear objective of collecting all three points, insisting that Simba’s derby victory would not diminish Mashujaa’s determination.
Athuman also called on Mashujaa supporters to continue backing the team, noting that the club carries the hopes of Kigoma Region and that its position in the league standings offered encouragement ahead of the fixture.
With both teams coming off victories, the encounter promises a competitive battle as Simba seek to capitalise on their derby triumph while Mashujaa aim to demonstrate that they can challenge the league’s leading sides.
For both clubs, victory would provide more than just three points; it would also strengthen confidence and provide valuable momentum for their upcoming league fixtures.
