Tanzania Prisons finished third overall in the 2026 Tanzania Military Sports Council (BAMMATA) Games after securing two titles and several podium finishes in competitions held in Mwanza.
The Prisons Zone was among seven zones that competed in the games, which ran from September 21 to October 3, bringing together athletes from Tanzania’s defence and security institutions.
The zone’s strongest performance came in volleyball, where both the men’s and women’s teams won their respective competitions to claim two first-place trophies.
Prisons also secured four second-place finishes in other disciplines, including netball and darts.
Inspector Catherine Lange added another podium finish in athletics after placing second in the half marathon.
The results released on October 6 placed the Prisons Zone third overall, behind the Ngome and SMZ zones.
Ngome topped the standings with seven first-place trophies, three second-place finishes and two third-place trophies.
SMZ finished second after winning three titles and securing three third-place finishes.
JKT came fourth with one first-place trophy, five second-place finishes and six third-place finishes, while the Police Zone finished fifth with one first-place, two second-place and four third-place trophies.
The Fire and Rescue Force finished sixth after securing one third-place trophy. It was also awarded the Permanent Participation Cup in recognition of its continued participation in the BAMMATA Games.
Immigration received the Fair Play Cup for its discipline, sportsmanship and conduct throughout the competition.
The BAMMATA Games are designed to provide a competitive platform for athletes from defence and security institutions while promoting cooperation and closer working relations among the participating forces.
For Tanzania Prisons, the third-place finish caps a strong campaign that saw the institution dominate both men’s and women’s volleyball while remaining competitive across several other disciplines.
