Residents of Arusha and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from increased access to construction materials and new economic opportunities following the launch of a shingle production plant project by Mzinga Corporation in Nanja, Monduli District.

The project was launched on October 12, 2026, by the Minister for Defence and National Service, Dr Rhimo Nyansaho (MP), as part of efforts to expand the corporation’s commercial activities and contribute to Tanzania’s economic development.

Mzinga Corporation, which is owned by the Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF), is implementing the project to diversify its revenue sources while making productive use of available resources and investment opportunities.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Nyansaho said the investment was in line with the Government’s broader development agenda under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, including the objectives of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050.

He said the project was expected to deliver benefits beyond the corporation and the military by supporting the construction industry, creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activities in the surrounding communities.

“The plant will contribute to increasing the availability of essential construction materials, supporting infrastructure development and creating opportunities for employment and related businesses,” the minister said.

The project is also expected to open up opportunities for transport operators, suppliers and service providers involved in the production and distribution of construction materials.

For residents of Monduli and neighbouring areas, such economic activities could provide opportunities to participate in the plant’s supply chain and related services, depending on the project’s operational and recruitment arrangements.

Dr Nyansaho stressed the importance of institutions and corporations operating under the defence sector investing in commercially viable projects that can generate sustainable income.

He urged the institutions to strengthen innovation, make effective use of their resources and develop investments that promote financial self-reliance while contributing to national development.

The minister noted that military institutions could play a broader role in economic growth when their commercial activities were managed professionally, with discipline and sound business principles.

The Nanja project adds to efforts to expand productive investment in Arusha Region, with its anticipated benefits extending to construction-related businesses, transport services and employment.

As implementation progresses, the project’s contribution to local livelihoods will depend on its production capacity, employment opportunities and the extent to which businesses and communities in the area can participate in its operations.
