Children requiring surgical treatment at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) could benefit from improved operating theatres, modern medical equipment and better treatment facilities following discussions on a potential partnership with Kids Operating Room and the Mo Dewji Foundation.
The discussions, held on October 9, 2026, focused on strengthening children’s surgical services by upgrading operating theatres, improving infrastructure and ensuring the availability of medical equipment that meets current healthcare standards.
The proposed collaboration aims to support safer, higher-quality surgical care for children while helping medical professionals respond to the growing demands of specialised treatment.
Speaking during the meeting, MNH Director of Surgical Services, Dr Rachel Mhavile, said the partnership was important in ensuring that the hospital’s paediatric operating theatres keep pace with advances in medical technology and modern surgical standards.
“Our goal is to ensure that children’s operating theatres have infrastructure and medical equipment that meet current standards, enabling our specialists to provide safe and high-quality surgical services,” Dr Mhavile said.
Improving surgical facilities is an important step towards ensuring that children receive appropriate treatment in a safe environment, with healthcare professionals equipped to deliver quality services.
For families, better-equipped operating theatres could help strengthen the hospital’s capacity to care for children who require surgical procedures, while supporting medical teams in their efforts to improve treatment outcomes.
MNH continues to work with development partners to improve its infrastructure, modernise medical equipment and strengthen specialised and highly specialised healthcare services.
The engagement with Kids Operating Room and the Mo Dewji Foundation reflects the importance of partnerships in addressing healthcare needs and improving the quality of services available to Tanzanians.
As discussions progress, the focus remains on strengthening the hospital’s capacity to provide safe, modern and reliable surgical care, particularly for children who depend on specialised medical services.
