The government’s new administrative centre in Mtumba is expected to improve coordination among public institutions and speed up service delivery, following its official inauguration attended by staff from the Ministry of Minerals.
The inauguration of Mtumba Government City was presided over by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, accompanied by Angolan President João Lourenço, and marked the completion of a major phase in the government’s efforts to consolidate public institutions in Dodoma.
The project comprises 37 office buildings accommodating various government ministries and institutions, alongside 59.1 kilometres of roads serving the new administrative centre.
The offices have a combined capacity to accommodate more than 18,000 public servants, creating a central working environment intended to improve coordination and make government operations more efficient.
However, the government’s next challenge will be ensuring that the investment translates into tangible improvements for citizens, particularly through faster access to public services and reduced administrative procedures.
Speaking during the inauguration, President Samia stressed the need for government institutions to connect their electronic systems so that they can communicate and exchange information seamlessly.
She said interconnected digital platforms would help eliminate bureaucratic procedures, reduce duplication of information and accelerate the delivery of services to the public.
The emphasis on digital integration is expected to strengthen cooperation between government institutions, allowing them to share information rather than requiring citizens to move between offices to obtain services.
For the Ministry of Minerals, whose staff participated in the inauguration, the new administrative centre provides an opportunity to operate within a more coordinated government environment as the ministry continues implementing its responsibilities.
The success of Mtumba Government City will ultimately depend not only on the quality of its buildings and infrastructure but also on whether the new working environment improves efficiency, accountability and the experience of citizens seeking government services.
