Natural Resources and Tourism Minister Dr Ashatu Kijaji has urged investors and project supervisors to speed up the implementation of tourism investments at Lake Duluti Forest Reserve, warning against unnecessary delays as Tanzania prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Dr Kijaji made the call on October 24, 2026, during a visit to inspect tourism development projects being undertaken by private sector investors at the reserve in Arusha.

She said there was no justification for delaying strategic investments expected to expand tourism services and improve the area's capacity to accommodate more visitors, particularly during the continental football tournament.

The minister stressed the need for effective supervision and accountability among all parties involved, saying no individual or institution should become an obstacle to the timely completion of the projects.

She said completing the investments on schedule would enable the reserve to offer quality tourism services and capitalise on the expected increase in visitors during AFCON 2027.

The ongoing investments include accommodation and restaurant facilities, recreational and sporting activities within the reserve, as well as a cable-based zipline attraction.

Dr Kijaji also used the visit to encourage local investors to take advantage of the available investment opportunities at Lake Duluti, noting that several areas were still open for private sector participation.

She cautioned domestic investors against waiting until foreign investors had taken up the available opportunities before complaining about limited access to investment opportunities.

The minister said potential areas included the development of wildlife gardens and zoological facilities, alongside other tourism-related investments.

Her appeal comes as Tanzania prepares for AFCON 2027, which is expected to provide opportunities for tourism businesses to attract visitors, generate revenue and create employment.

The development of additional tourism facilities at Lake Duluti is expected to diversify attractions in Arusha and strengthen the region's ability to benefit from increased visitor numbers.
