Homera briefs MPs on energy spending, project implementation

By Our Reporter

Energy Minister Juma Zuberi Homera on Monday presented the ministry’s first-quarter budget implementation report for the 2026/27 financial year to Parliament’s Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals, amid parliamentary scrutiny of spending and progress in the sector.

The report covers the period from July to September 2026 and was presented on October 19 to the committee, chaired by Vice Chairman Simon Songe.

The session provided an opportunity for the committee to review the ministry’s performance during the first three months of the financial year, including the implementation of planned activities and the use of allocated public funds.

However, details of expenditure, revenue collection and progress on individual energy projects were not provided in the statement announcing the presentation.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Energy Minister Salome Makamba, Permanent Secretary responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy Felchesmi Mramba, and Permanent Secretary responsible for Petroleum and Natural Gas James Mataragio.

Also present were ministry management officials, heads of institutions under the ministry and representatives of their respective management teams.

The presentation comes as the government continues to oversee the implementation of energy-sector programmes covering electricity supply, renewable energy and petroleum and natural gas.

Further details of the report would be needed to establish how much of the ministry’s approved budget had been spent by the end of September, which projects had progressed as planned and whether any implementation challenges had emerged.
