Entrepreneurs in Bahi and Kondoa districts, Dodoma Region, have said that entrepreneurship and livestock-keeping training provided through a climate change resilience project has increased their knowledge and strengthened their ability to improve their livelihoods.
The entrepreneurs made the remarks during the distribution of 2,100 improved-breed chicks to beneficiaries of a climate change resilience project implemented by INADES Formation Tanzania with funding from Bread for the World.
The beneficiaries said the training had equipped them with knowledge on how to make better use of opportunities available in their communities, particularly in the face of drought and other challenges associated with climate change.
They said the knowledge gained through INADES has helped them understand better poultry management practices, improve production and use poultry farming as a means of increasing household income.
The beneficiaries also pledged to share the knowledge they had acquired with other members of their communities who had not yet had the opportunity to participate in the training.
The project aims to support people living in drought-prone areas to cope with the effects of climate change by strengthening their capacity to engage in income-generating activities that are suited to their local environment.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, INADES Formation Tanzania Veterinary Officer Charles Bukula said the beneficiaries received training on proper poultry management before being provided with the chicks.
Bukula said the training focused on equipping beneficiaries with knowledge on proper poultry care, disease prevention and improved production practices to ensure that poultry farming becomes a sustainable source of income.
He added that INADES Formation Tanzania will continue providing beneficiaries with technical knowledge and advice aimed at improving productivity while strengthening their capacity to cope with the effects of climate change.
