Azam FC have secured a place in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Egypt's ZED FC 1-0 in the second leg of their qualifying tie at Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.

The Tanzanian side advanced 2-1 on aggregate after securing a 1-1 draw in the first leg played in Egypt.

The hosts started the match with attacking intent, but both sides struggled to break through as their defensive lines kept the forwards at bay in a goalless first half.

The contest resumed at a high tempo after the break, with both teams searching for the goal that would strengthen their chances of progressing.

Azam eventually broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute through Iddy Selemani, whose goal gave the hosts a crucial advantage in the tie.

ZED pushed for an equaliser, but Azam held on to protect their lead until the final whistle, sealing a 1-0 victory and a 2-1 aggregate triumph.

The result sends Azam into the group stage of Africa's second-tier club competition, keeping Tanzania's hopes alive in continental football.
