Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died. Mr Ameir died at 8am on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.
Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced the death on Monday, expressing deep sorrow over the passing of the President’s husband.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Mr Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Mr Ndejembi said.
The Vice President conveyed his condolences to President Hassan, her family, relatives and friends, as well as Tanzanians, following the death.
He said funeral arrangements were underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.
Mr Ameir’s death comes as a major loss to the President and her family, with further details on the funeral arrangements expected to be announced as preparations continue.
