Cancer survivors have shared their experiences at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), urging Tanzanians to undergo regular health check-ups and seek early diagnosis as the country continues efforts to fight the disease.
MNH brought together patients who have undergone cancer treatment and recovered on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in recognition of their resilience and to acknowledge the contribution of stakeholders supporting cancer treatment and care in Tanzania.
Speaking on behalf of the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, Ms Prissila Kinyamagoha urged the public to make regular health screening part of their routine, stressing that early detection can improve the chances of successful treatment and recovery.
She also commended parents who remained committed throughout their children's treatment, saying their perseverance had helped children reach recovery.
The survivors' stories, she said, offered renewed hope to other patients and families facing cancer.
“Early detection gives patients a better chance of receiving timely treatment and achieving recovery,” she said.
MNH also thanked organisations and individuals supporting cancer treatment, while calling for more partners to come forward as demand for services remains high and the number of new patients continues to rise.
The hospital said the initiative was part of its wider efforts to provide continuous public education on cancer and challenge misconceptions surrounding the disease.
The engagement also sought to demonstrate that cancer is not necessarily a death sentence when detected and managed through appropriate medical care.
