Mashili Company Limited Executive Director Peter Mashili has fulfilled a pledge he made last month by donating an incinerator and generator worth more than TZS11 million to Nzega Nursing and Midwifery College.
Mr Mashili handed over the equipment on September 29, 2026, fulfilling a commitment he made on August 7 when he was the guest of honour at the college’s fourth graduation ceremony.
The incinerator cost TZS6.9 million to construct, while the generator was purchased for TZS4.2 million. The equipment is intended to address waste-management and power challenges that have affected the college’s learning environment and operations.
Speaking during the handover, Mr Mashili said the contribution was part of his efforts to support government initiatives aimed at strengthening the training of health professionals.
He said the incinerator would improve the management of waste generated at the college, particularly waste associated with health training and related activities.
The generator, he added, would provide an alternative power source and help ensure that teaching and other essential activities continue when electricity supply is interrupted.
“This is about supporting the government’s efforts to improve the training of health professionals while ensuring that students and tutors have a better environment in which to learn and work,” Mr Mashili said.
Acting Nzega District Administrative Secretary Zalna Dickolagwa thanked Mr Mashili and his mining company for investing in the community through corporate social responsibility initiatives.
She said fulfilling the pledge demonstrated that private-sector investment could complement government efforts to improve public services and strengthen community development.
“The fulfilment of this pledge has strengthened public trust because Mr Mashili has demonstrated in practice that the promises he makes are followed by action,” Ms Dickolagwa said.
She said the Nzega District Government would continue working with Mashili Company and other private-sector players to strengthen partnerships and support development projects benefiting local communities.
The college’s principal, Josephat K. Kaja, thanked Mr Mashili for honouring his commitment, saying the equipment would help address challenges that had affected both the learning environment and the college’s operations.
The contribution comes as the government seeks to increase the number of qualified health workers through expanded training capacity.
Nzega Nursing and Midwifery College currently has 143 students, comprising 93 women and 50 men.
