Natural Resources and Tourism Minister Ashatu Kijaji has warned project leaders and supervisors against misusing or poorly managing government funds, saying such practices delay development projects and deny residents intended public services.
Dr Kijaji, who is also the Kondoa MP, said on Sunday, September 13, 2026, that every shilling released for development projects must be properly accounted for and used for its intended purpose.
She made the remarks during public meetings in Kikore, Kisese and Itololo wards, where residents raised various challenges and received responses and clarification from the minister.
“Government will not tolerate negligence or misuse of public funds that delays development projects intended to benefit wananchi,” Dr Kijaji said.
During the visit, she inspected the construction of classrooms at Kisese Secondary School and Kikore Primary School, directing officials to ensure the projects are completed on time.
She said the government had already released funds for the projects and that delays would prolong challenges facing students and teachers while denying children access to a better learning environment.
Dr Kijaji also urged beneficiaries of the 10 per cent loans provided through local government authorities to repay the funds on time so that other groups can also access the financing.
She said timely repayment would help make the revolving loan scheme benefit more people and support economic activities at the community level.
The minister thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for continuing to allocate funds to development projects in Kondoa, including water and electricity projects, as well as the construction of health centres and dispensaries.
Dr Kijaji also condemned parents and leaders who contribute to children dropping out of school or being married off.
She urged communities to protect children's right to education, saying keeping them in school would give them better opportunities while contributing to the country's development.
