Residents in parts of Dar es Salaam and Coast regions will face a 12-hour water interruption on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as the Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (Dawasa) conducts preventive maintenance at the Upper Ruvu Water Treatment Plant in Kibaha.
The shutdown will run from 6am to 6pm, according to Dawasa’s Head of Communications, Everlasting Lyaro.
Ms Lyaro said the maintenance is aimed at strengthening the water infrastructure and preparing the system for possible challenges posed by heavy rains expected in the coming period.
She urged residents in the affected areas to store enough water in advance, particularly for essential household needs during the interruption.
The affected areas include Ruvu Darajani, Ruvu JKT, Vigwaza, Mlandizi, Mbwawa, Soga, Mwendapole, Tanita, Kwa Mathias, Picha ya Ndege, Kibaha, Kiluvya, Kibamba, Malamba Mawili, Saranga, Mbezi, Ubungo, Kimara, Tabata, Segerea, Kinyerezi, Kisukuru, Bonyokwa, Ukonga, Uwanja wa Ndege, Kiwalani, Vingunguti, Gongo la Mboto, Pugu and Kisarawe.
Dawasa asked residents to cooperate with its teams to enable the work to be completed efficiently and water services restored as scheduled.
The maintenance comes as authorities prepare water infrastructure for the effects of heavy rainfall, which can disrupt supply systems and increase pressure on water facilities.
