Morogoro. Farmers and livestock keepers in rural areas should be among the biggest beneficiaries of new agricultural technologies, knowledge and innovations being showcased at the Nanenane exhibitions, Works Minister Abdallah Ulega has said.
Ulega said there was a need for government institutions, experts and private sector players to go beyond exhibitions and ensure the solutions displayed reach communities where most agricultural activities take place.
He made the remarks yesterday during his visit to the Eastern Zone Nanenane exhibitions in Morogoro, which brought together stakeholders from the agriculture, livestock, fisheries and business sectors.
“Experts should ensure that the efforts being made here do not end at the exhibitions. The knowledge, technology and innovations being showcased must reach more citizens so they can benefit,” Ulega said.
The minister praised the growing involvement of the private sector in Nanenane 2026, saying partnerships between the government and businesses are key to introducing modern solutions, increasing investment and improving productivity in the agricultural sector.
This year’s exhibitions are being held under the theme “Identify Markets, Increase Productivity, Implement Vision 2050”, highlighting the need to strengthen production, value addition and market access for farmers.
Ulega also commended youth and women-led enterprises that have benefited from the local government loans programme, whose allocation has increased from 10 per cent to 15 per cent.
He said the beneficiaries were using the funds to expand their businesses and create more economic opportunities, adding that such initiatives were important in empowering communities and improving household incomes.
However, the minister cautioned that boosting production alone would not be enough unless farmers were connected to reliable markets.
He said ensuring that agricultural products reach consumers efficiently remains critical in improving farmers’ earnings and strengthening the country’s food supply chain.
On infrastructure, Ulega said the government was continuing to improve roads and bridges to reduce transportation costs, ease access to markets and support economic activities for farmers, livestock keepers and traders.
He added that improved transport networks would continue to play a key role in transforming agriculture into a more competitive and commercially driven sector.
